About Me| 5 Stereotypical Assumptions People Have About Me

Most of us are judgmental people – we often end up judging people even before we talk to them. But there are some stereotypical assumptions that are so off the mark! Shelly did a similar post and inspired by her, here are some stereotypical assumptions that people have about me –

I AM NOT ATHELETIC

I’ve always been a big girl even as a kid. Most people assumed it’s because I didn’t work out or play sports but I was a part of my school and university’s basketball team even going on to play on state level. I even represented my university in a football tournament too – but let’s just say my hand-eye coordination is better than my foot-eye coordination. (:P)

Spot me πŸ˜‰

I CAN’T DO EVERYTHING BY MYSELF

As a woman and more specifically an Indian woman – the stereotype is that you need someone (read as: a man) to help you with everything in life. Boy are they wrong! I can do everything by myself including lifting heavy boxes, going on solo trips, fixing broken things (thank God for Youtube), etc. I’ve worked hard my entire adult life to be as independent as possible and I take pride in that.

I even take my own photos when I travel solo 😎

I AM A FRIENDLY PERSON

I mean I’m not an unfriendly people but most people assume that I am extremely friendly because I have a few circles of friends. But on the contrary I’m very reserved and only become friends with people that I can really vibe with. It’s just that I have had multiple jobs, universities, schools and ended up with a different group from all and hence, it seems like I’m a very friendly person. But I think I’ve gotten lucky to find amazing people wherever I’ve been.

Friday night (pre-covid) – that Instagram story update photo πŸ˜›

I AM A LONER

Hahah I can see how this and the previous one don’t go together. A lot of people that don’t know me too well assume I’m a loner because I really like spending time by myself. I am an introvert and don’t make an effort to talk to a lot of people. I totally love just being by myself – and it makes people think I am a loner – I’m not – I just find myself to be the best company ever. *Humble bow*

I’m definitely not bored alone – I do fun photoshoots πŸ™ˆ

I AM BITCHY

I’ve mastered the resting bitch face – as someone who is SUPER socially awkward – it serves me well to have a RBF to keep annoying conversations at bay. But in turn I’ve seen that a lot of people assume that I am bitchy because I appear cold to them at first. RBF is just a defense mechanism I’ve developed over the years. Not to say that I’m not bitchy in general – I do enjoy my bitchy moments but as a first impression – when people assume I’m bitchy – I really don’t bite.

What are some assumptions people have about you that annoy you? Have you ever tried correcting them?

PS: Go check out Shelly’s post and find out the fun and funny assumptions people have about her.

PPS: This is my 200th post on here – WHICH IS CRAZY! I’ve written a 100 posts in 9 months – which astonishes me. The first 100 posts were over a period of 5 years. πŸ˜€

Hahaha I loved this! Thanks for writing this post ~ the needing a man thing had me in giggles! We women are capable of a lot~ I just think the majority of us choose not to waste the energy πŸ˜… and the RBF is a blessing. Don’t let anyone make you believe otherwise!

True – it just annoys me when I’m told I can’t do something and should ask a man to do it. I can do anything! But when I’m lazy I do ask someone else to help me. πŸ˜›
It has taken me years to master the RBF but I just don’t want nice people to think I’m bitchy and TOTALLY unapproachable. 😦

I was born with RBF Lol… Love how RBF is only reserved for women eh? If men do it I feel like they’re mysterious and brooding!

I guess most women have had to adopt a RBF to avoid the creeps around us.

I’ve gotten both sides of the bitchy/friendly assumption from many people myself. Well…actually, I sometimes get asked why I look so pissed off at the world 🀧 which wounds me to an extent; I don’t like being seen as a Scrooge πŸ˜… but I’m more or less reserved and introverted in real lifeπŸ₯²

Same – I am an introvert and I am socially awkward – so I never know how to behave with people which is usually construed as arrogant and bitchy. 😦

Congratulations on your 200th post. I am so glad you writeπŸ₯°I strive to be as independent as I possibly can be. Sometimes that comes of as standoffish but that’s the way I like my life to be β€”more reliant on myself and less on others. xx

    I can totally relate.
Many people have similar assumptions about me. The part where they think I’m a loner. I really am not. But more than anything, I value my space and privacy and most people who have grown close to me, overtime, have taken note. They respect my privacy yet they know I can be all shades of crazy and fun around them..

I’m really picky when it comes to people. Because, I really don’t like being friends with someone and all of a sudden, the vibe just die. I love consistency and commitment in my friendships and for as long as I can remember, I and my little circle of friends have been connected, no matter the distance.

Yup. Like most people commenting, I can relate to the RBF… I didn’t realize what I looked like until someone took a photo and sent it to me. I looked so mean! But, that’s the opposite of who I am so I suppose those who choose to get to know me are true friends.

    1. Happy Panda says:

Hahah! I prefer the RBF to awkward conversations in the office lift. Though it’s usually not enough to stop people from talking. πŸ™ˆ
But I agree with you – the people who choose to not make an assumption and still try to get to know you – those are our true friends. 😊
