New Year = New Me + (Old Problems, who?)

December made me very happy as I hope it did you. The New Year usually feels different but it doesn’t this time thanks to restrictions (self or government imposed) that are still in place. While we’d all like to believe that the new year means that our past slate is wiped clean, it often doesn’t work that way. I applaud the people who are working on being new people in the new year but very often in our efforts to make the new year count we end up repressing old issues that often show up later in an ugly way. From my personal experiences I have observed that after the high of December, January usually isn’t the best for my mental health. The pressure of doing better in the new year, the pressure of new year resolutions minus all the festive fun of December can be a bit much to deal with. While I’m no Guru on this topic and I am still very much work in progress, this post is to remind you to not take your mental health for granted in your attempts to achieve your New Year goals.

Remember to check-in on yourself every morning. How are you today?

Definitely reach out to someone if you need help!

Take out time to relax, pamper yourself and just get a break! Here’s a weekly wellbeing checklist, you could create your own according to the activities that spark joy for you.

Make your own weekly wellbeing checklist!

Definitely aim for the stars, go big this year (while staying home), go after all your dreams but keep checking in with yourself from time to time. Don’t lose yourself on your way to the stars! πŸ™‚

Happy 2021!

I loved this! Love the checklists, I am trying my best and staying off social media! I am not sure if blogging counts but at least everyone here is uplifting ❀ πŸ’–

    2. ❀️ HAPPY NEW YEAR! I agree, the new year doesn’t feel quite as β€œnew” and β€œdifferent” as previous New Years. But I think it opens doors for time spent slowing down and definitely pampering yourself, like you said πŸ˜‰ I love being able to take more baths, make hot tea and just sit with a good book now that I have more time at home this year 😊

Great post! We often get so caught up in wanting to be productive, efficient and, overall, better, that we forget to check in with ourselves and our mental health! I love the idea of a weekly wellbeing checklist – it shows how off-screen time and hobbies are so important as well: it’s not all about work and social media 😊

This year the new year did feel different and not as much as a new beginning… Since we are still dealing with 2020 problems. But I’m giving it my best! 😁🌟✨🀍

I’m reminded that because I’m at home all the time now that I need to still schedule in days off and bigger breaks. You’re so right about the flatness of ringing in this year. It was a calendar switch, nothing more, in the most mundane sense.

But it looks like your being very self-aware and making the most of how we behave and looking for possible pitfalls. Smarty πŸ˜‰ xoxo

Hahah thanks! After 1st I felt the happy high I had been feeling the past few weeks slowly vanish – so planning out ahead to make sure I don’t go back to my old anxious ways! 😊

  13. Sometimes I wonder, how optimist people are on New Year’s eve but that all vanishes in just one bad experience or time..
Resolutions can be Resolved but we Human often omit to resolved ourselves, right? πŸ˜…πŸ˜…
    Good content though…😁😁

haha I used to be an optimist too but then life happened πŸ˜›

Exactly – so many of things we want to resolve in our life starts from us resolving our own issues/habits first!
