December made me very happy as I hope it did you. The New Year usually feels different but it doesn’t this time thanks to restrictions (self or government imposed) that are still in place. While we’d all like to believe that the new year means that our past slate is wiped clean, it often doesn’t work that way. I applaud the people who are working on being new people in the new year but very often in our efforts to make the new year count we end up repressing old issues that often show up later in an ugly way. From my personal experiences I have observed that after the high of December, January usually isn’t the best for my mental health. The pressure of doing better in the new year, the pressure of new year resolutions minus all the festive fun of December can be a bit much to deal with. While I’m no Guru on this topic and I am still very much work in progress, this post is to remind you to not take your mental health for granted in your attempts to achieve your New Year goals.
Remember to check-in on yourself every morning. How are you today?
Take out time to relax, pamper yourself and just get a break! Here’s a weekly wellbeing checklist, you could create your own according to the activities that spark joy for you.
Definitely aim for the stars, go big this year (while staying home), go after all your dreams but keep checking in with yourself from time to time. Don’t lose yourself on your way to the stars! 🙂
How has 2021 been so far for you? 🙂
